VALUE DOESN’T NEED TO BE EXPENSIVE!

When someone mentions a Vox amp, the first model that probably comes to mind is the legendary AC30, but Vox is known for more than just that one model. Their line of budget solid state amps has earned them a lot of fans as well. If you’re looking for a great practice amp with solid tone, it’s the Vox Pathfinder 10.

Controls

Going over the controls on the Vox Pathfinder 10, you get a gain knob, an overdrive button switch, a two-band EQ, and a volume knob. Simple but effective. The controls are located on the top of the amp, like we are used to seeing with a Vox. You also get a headphone/line out jack, a handy feature of the Pathfinder 10. Easy to use, and you get all the essential tone shaping tools.

Features

The Pathfinder 10 looks like a scaled down version of an AC30. It’s a handsome piece of gear, but looks don’t sell amps- performance does.  A single 6.5-inch speaker delivers 10 watts of power, so you are guaranteed to get ample volume for a solid practice session. The Vox Pathfinder 10 is one of the lighter amps in its category. If you travel with your amp you can appreciate the reduction in weight. Lastly, the line-out port allows recording of guitar tracks directly into a mixer or computer.

Performance

While Vox is best known for their tube amps, their solid state tone is nothing to joke about. The clean tones you get with Pathfinder 10 are more than satisfactory, considering the price of the amp. It is a similar situation with the overdrives. Pressing the channel toggle button introduces a very organic sounding growl. You can shape it from a light overdrive to full gain distortion. All things considered, Pathfinder’s performance is impressive.

Conclusion

Being able to get a legitimate Vox amp in this price range is something many guitar players definitely appreciate. Even though it is a solid state model, just the fact that it is made by Vox inspires a lot of confidence. They are quality control and decades- long reputation of a top tier brand guarantee higher level of performance. This is only reinforced when you lay your hands on the amp for the first time.
